Olga Trifonova, the Head of ChemPartners HR Department, answers on the most frequently asked questions of candidates about ChemPartners and work within the Company.

1. How important is knowledge of chemistry to get job in ChemPartners?

1. How important is knowledge of chemistry to get job in ChemPartners?

ОТ: We are to understand that we are engaged primarily in international trade business where chemical raw materials (and other B-2-B products within the scope of the Company) are subjects of trade; our activity does not differ that much from any other foreign trade company.

As we say on our web site (and that is true), your personal qualities are especially important; then follows knowledge in foreign trade (if you are applying for a position in Commercial Department); knowledge in the field of chemistry is mostly good addition, rather than the need.

For me personally that was very interesting to learn that almost everything surrounding us is a product of chemical industry or contains its elements.

2.  You are constantly looking for new employees (“permanent search”). Why? Do you have such high turnover?

ОТ: Well, only Foreign Trade Manager position is always actual and that is due to follows: 

а) ChemPartners have always been “star team”: more than 80% are gold medalists and holders of diplomas with honor from leading Russian universities; foreign trade is our specialization, that is why “permanent search” means that we are monitoring the market not to lose another “star”. We want all of them to work with us!

b) average annual growth of business in 2009-2013 amounts to 40%, number of employees in Commercial Department increases by 4-6 people per annum respectively, and these people are to be found and "crystallized" within the probation period.

c) we have rotation – at healthy level under our control; if a person does not show him/herself (as a rule – just does not want to realize his/her potential, which most of us have), we believe that it would be better for both Company and employee to find better option somewhere else. 

3. How does hiring is made in ChemPartners Russia?

ОТ: Hiring process takes place on the first working day under an employment contract, followed by making an employment record. Salary is totally official and is paid by the 10th of each month by transfer to the salary card.



4. Does the Company really makes you working till night?

ОТ: Almost for half of our employees have soft scheduled working day; and exactly this category sometimes works till late. Yes, we request all tasks to be completed on time, but we do not force our employees to work after 6-7 pm, it is always choice of an employee. 

This partly can be explained by the fact that most of specialists, who work in Commercial Department and have liberal working schedule, are of young age and have not yet reached satisfactory speed / efficiency which they finally reach after 1-2 years of work - to compensate that they have to work extra hours during their first year in the Company.

By the way, knowing that the office "lives" from 8 a.m. until late night, we tried to do everything to make stay in the office enjoyable: everyday, at 5 p.m. – extra lunch, then everyone has an opportunity to dine right in the office and take a walk on our balconies to recover, tea and coffee of all grades without any restrictions, etc., as well as beautiful “birds eye view” at night Moscow in the late hours. ))

5. What else are you doing for your employees? You are saying on your web site that “our staff is Company main value”. Everyone is saying the same nowadays...

ОТ: Whatever we do for our employees, there are always companies that are doing more. We just honestly trying to do everything in our power so that working with us will be profitable, prestigious, convenient, useful and interesting.

In addition to everything stated above, we have a wide range of services provided by the Company, especially for employees working for more than one year and whishing to tie their future with ChemPartners. For example: 50% recovery of the annual subscription to the fitness center of premium class (located across the street from the office) including Zumba classes, health insurance, 50% or full recovery for renting an apartment at walking distance from the office (dozens of employees are already settled close), more than 5 various educational programs, 5-7 corporate events throughout the year, including musicals and theatre, special lending program for employees in banks working with the Company, free lunches and snacks (including fruits, and even non-alcoholic mojito in summer), the possibility to work in open air on our balcony from April to October, comfortable office with panoramic windows and a great view, air-conditioned in summer and warmed in winter, daily soundtracks and video sequences in openspace...; and, finally, the very location of the office - 4-5 minutes of walk from the Serpukhovskaya or Paveletskaya metro stations.

6. Is the Company really international or just call themselves this way?

ОТ: The question is what is meant by "international company". If the Company’s shareholders are from several countries, offices are located in different countries and employees are citizens of these countries, if employees from different countries work in every office, if different companies of the Holding are registered in different countries, if the Company operates in several dozens of countries – shall we consider the Company as being international or nor? It’s you to decide J

7. Bosses are probably going on business abroad and newcomers are to cover Russian cities?

ОТ: You would not believe - within the first years of the Company’s activity “bosses” had already “enjoyed travelling”, so now they travel mostly to key customers in Russia; besides, we consider that foreign business trips are highly important educational element as they develop erudition and give experience to new employees. So, if you have passed your probation period now you cannot get away from trips all around the World no matter you want it or nor - this is the business in international trade. 

8. Surely, there are less career opportunities in your Company than in consulting or FMCG multinational companies?

ОТ: On one hand, there are less hierarchy levels in our Company; on the other hand, thanks to medium size of the Company, if you are really willing to invest your time and energy into your career within the Company, you are guaranteed growth faster than in the classic MNC.

In addition, geographical rotation (between offices in different countries) is also possible, as well as functional (there are cases of rotation from Financial Department into Commercial and from Commercial to IT, etc.), and divisional - Holding manages leading businesses not only in international distribution of chemical products, but also in the areas of polymers recycling, logistics, machine building, production of equipment for waste processing.
